Prez Sez June 2018
Welcome to the season of "graduating". We have graduated to our new website - thank you David Pringle for the extensive hours you've invested in this endeavor. As with every change, there is a period of exploration and adaptation. We are continuously improving the flow of the site, and feel it is almost to perfection. It is your source for information, and donation through refund affiliates. Please use it often.
[note by dpringle] There is a host of information and important links under our 'member resources' link under 'about' above. Our affiliate links (under info) help support our association and do not cost you a penny extra. Our Amazon Smile affiliation is one that we encourage you to use for all of your purchases.[end]
During the summer Paulette Flemmens and John McNulty will continue to have classes in oil. Lynne Yancha is going to conduct a watercolor workshop July 18 - 20. She is a master in painting to catch the essence of the individual, along with contrasting light/dark vibrancy. Submit your registrations as soon as possible. The links are in the class menu above.
I would like to clarify art opportunities at the Cocoa Beanery. This will be our fifth year of displaying art on the 2nd Thursday of each month June - September. The event showcases three artists in the conference room of the Beanery during the Farmers Market on the outside premises. This is a one day event, and the three artists must be in attendance during the show. To participate in 2nd Thursday, contact Mary Lott.
The second Cocoa Beanery opportunity is in the cafe portion and is ongoing, just as our Library show. Three artists are also featured at this event, and the hanging period is for two months. The next opportunities to hang will begin July 17 and September 12. This venue us called "Art At The Cocoa Beanery." Contact Linda Rose to sign up.
Hershey Area Art Association provides our artists with about a dozen venue opportunities to show their work throughout the year. In May we were at the Country Meadows of Hershey for two weeks. Our show chair for that event, Connie Davis, received the following from the manager after the show: "Hi Connie- thanks so much for organizing your wonderful group of artists to display their talents and share them here with us at Country Meadows! One resident said to me yesterday, “it’s gone already !?” They really do enjoy looking at all of the wonderful artwork! Thanks again!" Not only do these venues help promote our artists, they also fulfill our mission to get fine art and visual art out into the community, and it is very much appreciated.
Looking ahead to our September meeting - it will be a time of member appreciation, sharing how our association has grown, and what we hope to accomplish in the future. We'll also have a small presentation on how art influences society. Plan now to come and share about the "Nuts and Bolts" of our association and how we all function together to make it unique among all the other art associations. To my knowledge we are the only art association in the area that has a monthly meeting where we enjoy learning about different aspects of art, and build camaraderie among our members.
Hope you are all enjoying the summer, and if you're by the Hershey Library stop in to peruse the latest copy of Artists and Illustrators magazine, which we provide to the community, and check out the current display of members art work in the gallery hallway. Our scholarship winner also has an extensive display of her works.
