This is a three-day workshop; 1PM to 4PM Weds 7/15 to Fri. 7/172020.
PORTRAIT WORKSHOP: The workshop is intended for all levels and will provide individualized assistance from the instructor and daily critiques. Paul will demonstrate portrait painting and capturing a person’s likeness. The workshop is for Oil or Acrylic artists.
Students will learn to create a portrait likeness, simplify values, understand paint edges, and control composition. Organizing your palette to mix realistic colors, values, and temperatures for different skin types will be also be covered.
Students should bring their own quality photos as reference. A good 4” x 6” or 5” x 7” photo will be fine. I don’t encourage school or commercial portrait photos because they usually lack character. Try taking your own photo reference and have prints made at a local pharmacy or Walmart etc………
OIL OR ACRYLIC PAINTING SUPPLIES
Paints - Windsor Newton, Gamblin or other quality paint
Colors: Titanium White, Burnet Sienna, French Ultramarine Blue, Cerulean or Pthallo Blue, Cadmium Yellow, Lemon Yellow, Cadmium Red, Alizarin Crimson Permanent
Brushes: I prefer a variety of both synthetic and natural bristle, but I use other brushes as well.
Natural bristles: Flats #8 #6 #4. Synthetic : Robert Simmons TT60 Shader #20, #14, #10. (Please bring any brushes you have on hand as well)
Canvases: 1 - 9” x 12”, 1- 11” x 14”, 1- 16” x 20”
Other Items Needed: Gamblin New Meglip or Liquin painting medium, palette knife, Cranson Disposable Palette 12x16, Pencil and Sketchpad, Paper Towels
